Profile
James Miller
Advisor, Groundswell
James is an Advisor to Groundswell, a joint project by the Bezos Earth Fund, Global Optimism, and the Systems Change Lab. Groundswell supports a diverse and distributed chorus of voices to shape a narrative of courage and possibility, which essentially says: it’s not too late to achieve our Paris goals.
James joins Global Optimism from Systemiq, the system change company. There he was involved in a range of work, from analysis to support nature finance instruments to the 'Blue Whale Inquiry' - a flagship initiative to synthesise collective wisdom on driving systems transformation.
He had previously been an environmental activist as a teenager, focusing on advocacy to put climate and nature higher up the political agenda. He initiated a number of projects, including the seven storey-tall Climate Clock at COP26, a concert fundraiser for threatened rainforest with Olivia Rodrigo, and 'Here's The Plan' - a podcast he co-hosts with Bella Lack.
James is a proud council member of Reserva: The Youth Land Trust, a youth-led conservation organisation protecting threatened habitats globally. He studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge, and helped run the university's 2000 member strong Climate Society.
